School for Sustainable Living and Livelihood

With professional education beyond the reach of the rural poor, courses have been started for rural youth (girls and boys) to give them relevant qualitative education required to maintain the regenerated natural resources, and for other services needed in rural areas.  These courses will earn them a livelihood along with teaching them how to live in harmony within the ecosystem.  Faculties from professional institutions volunteer their expertise and time.

Course for Environment Community Organizers (ECO)

WOTR has made a conscious decision to enhance the capacities of rural youth especially those who have worked as PLS so that their services and experience will be used for future development projects both or WOTR as well as in other institutions. After a rigorous entrance exam and interviews, 24 candidates (including 3 women) from the 7 districts of Maharashtra were selected and have initiated the 2 years course at Darewadi Training Centre (DTC). The course consists of subjects related with environmental education. The first year consists of classroom sessions for 100 days with 200 days of practical sessions placed in the project sites. Whereas during the second year, the there will be 50 days of classroom sessions and 250 days of guided practical field work. Faculties from the Sadhana Centre for Management and Leadership Development, Pune are the main faculty for this course. Village Leaders who have intensely worked on and benefited from the watershed development also come in as guest faculty.

Course for Rural Chroniclers:

This course has the objective of training rural youth to document the situation and the changes taking place in their villages, to collect data and information and to use this to motivate changes in their village as also to disseminate this information. This course too had a selection process in which 23 students including 9 girls were accepted.

The faculties for the course are from the University of Pune and KG College, Ahmednagar.
