Current Projects

At WOTR, there is a constant endeavour to bring about a change in society. As such, the projects are many and varied in nature. Also, following the Wasundhara guidelines, WOTR implements all its projects in such a way that the local community is put at the centre of the development process. Here are some of the current projects being executed across four states in India.

Maharashtra

  • Program management and resource organisation for large-scale projects where capacity building and hand-holding of NGOs is undertaken.
  • The implementation of the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) project in Jalna district in association with the government of Maharashtra and ITC for the realisation of the NREGA and MREGS in 50 villages of two blocks.
  • Development of the capacities of PRIs, CBOs and Samyukt Mahila Samiti (SMS) (apex body of women’s SHGs) to envision the progress of their villages and to plan and implement projects.
  • The direct implementation of WSD together with our sister organisation SIED.
  • Women’s empowerment through the promotion of SHGs and their SMS. Women are empowered for active participation in the village development process. Support for micro-credit, micro-insurance, entrepreneurship development is provided in association with our sister organisation The Sampada Trust.
  • Health promotion and growth monitoring of children and the capacity building of women health workers.
  • Promotion and implementation of drinking water and sanitation for individual households and schools.
  • Providing energy for household cooking and lighting purposes is being done using renewable sources such as biogas, stoves using agro-waste pellets, and solar home-lighting systems.
  • Training is provided for all aspects related to participatory watershed and rural development. These training programs are conducted at various sites as also at our training centre at village Darewadi.
  • The School for Sustainable Living & Livelihood is conducting four courses for the rural youth to meet the demands of rural development in an eco-friendly manner.
  • A school strengthening program has been undertaken for enhancing the quality of didactic skills to improve education in primary schools.
  • Consultancy services are being provided for independent projects.
  • Research and documentation is being undertaken for various studies related to watershed and rural development. Short documentary films are also being prepared that will highlight issues and will be useful as training material. 
  • In partnership with ILRI, we are addressing fodder requirements in dry-land farming.


Andhra Pradesh

  • The implementation of soil and water conservation along watershed lines and the capacity building of village CBOs, PRIs and promotion of women’s SHGs for livelihood activities have been initiated.
Madhya Pradesh Madhya Pradesh
  • The implementation of soil and water conservation along watershed lines and the capacity building and hand-holding of NGOs, village CBOs and PRIs has been undertaken. Women’s self help groups are also promoted.
  • Training programs are being conducted for various stakeholders on aspects of watershed development.
