Awards  

  • Fr. Bacher, Founder & Chairperson of WOTR  received the Federal Cross of the Order of Merit, (Germany's highest civilian award) in recognition of his services and contribution to Development Cooperation between Germany and India at the hands of the Minister of Development Cooperation, Dr. Carl Spranger on 12th February 1994.
  • Fr. Bacher, Founder & Chairperson of WOTR received the Krishi Bhushan, Government of Maharashtra at the hands of the Governor of Maharashtra, Dr. P.C. Alexander on 2nd October 1994 for his invaluable contribution in the field of Agriculture and Rural Development.

  • WOTR received the Govt. of Maharashtra’s Vasantrao Naik Award in July 2001 for outstanding soil and water conservation work

  • Mr. Crispino Lobo, Co-Founder and Managing Trustee of WOTR received the prestigious award for Outstanding Social Entrepreneurship Award, November 2005 given by the Schwab Foundation, Switzerland .     
  • Mr. Crispino Lobo, Co-Founder and Managing Trustee of WOTR   have been honored with the prestigious award - "Karmaveer Puraskaar" for his work in empowerment at the grassroots  on March 2007 by the ICONGO (Indian Confederation of NGOs) – Khemka Foundation.
  • Dr. Marcella D’Souza, Executive Director of WOTR have been honored with the prestigious award - "Karmaveer Puraskaar" for her work in empowerment of women  on March 2007 by the ICONGO (Indian Confederation of NGOs) – Khemka Foundation.

Recognition

  • WOTR has been extensively referred in the Technical Committee Report 'From Hariyali to Neeranchal' on Watershed Programmes in India of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India (popularly known as the Parthasarthy Commission Report)This is the successor to the Hanumanthrao Committee report and applies to the Hariyali Program for watershed development in India.  
  • World Resources 2005 has published an article on Darewadi Watershed Project ( a work of WOTR)  titled   "More Water More Wealth in Darewadi Village".  World Resources Institute has also invited WOTR’s Executive Director Dr. Marcella D’Souza, to present  Darewadi Village case study at a major forum hosted by the Norwegian Govt in Oslo, Norway in Jan.06 

  • WOTR is Recognized nationally and internationally as a premier Capacity Building / Practice Oriented Training Institute as well as Programme Management Agency. 

  • WOTR has bilateral status with Govt. of India under Indo-German Watershed Development Programme (IGWDP). 

  • WOTR has permission to treat Govt. Forest land under IGWDP. 

  • The Govt. of India has adopted the Capacity Building approach developed by WOTR and incorporated them into the “Common Approach for Watershed Development” - (CAWD) guidelines (Pg 14) for watershed development.   

  • WOTR has been instrumental in initiating the National Watershed Development Fund (NWDF), 1999.  

  • WOTR represented on Water Conservation Mission of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

  • The Chairperson of WOTR, Fr. Hermann Bacher, was appointed as a member of the High Level Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. M. S. Swaminathan mandated with the task of preparing an Action Plan for Agriculture for the coming 25 years in Maharashtra.  The Paper prepared by WOTR on watershed development and was largely adopted and now constitutes the official Proceedings and Recommendations of the Committee. 

  • Participated in the 3rd WWF at Kyoto (16-23 March 2003).  Our experience in watershed development was used as a key example in the debate on mitigating the effects of climate induced changes.  

  • In year 2002 WOTR is appointed by the Govt. of Maharashtra as Mother NGO for the DPAP being implemented in 105 projects in the Ahmednagar District.   

  • Participated at the World Summit on Sustainable Development held at Johannesburg in August 2002 and presented a stall at the Water Dome for the duration of the Summit. 

  • WOTR has, through its projects on the one hand and policy dialogue on the other, strengthened the case of watershed development as an effective strategy for environmental regeneration and thereby poverty alleviation in the rural areas. This has been recognised by EXPO 2000, Hannover, Germany in the year 2000, where the Watershed Development Programme was selected for presentation under the theme “Basic Needs”.
