In late October, Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mrs Weicozerek Zeul, visited India. On October 22, a half-day programme was organised in New Delhi for her to know about the various Indo-German programs, especially those related to the development sector. On this occasion, villagers had an opportunity to share their experiences and highlight the benefits gained from the implementation of these programs.
The Indo-German Watershed Development Program of Maharashtra was represented by Smt Sumitra Salunke of Dhanora village, Shri Vishwanath Kharat of Dhawargaon village and Shri Shivaji Karande, VDC Chairman of Darewadi village. Against the backdrop showcasing the changing village scenario, Shri Karande spoke about the transformation that has taken place in the wake of the availability of water in his semi-arid, drought-prone village.
Having heard this testimony, Mrs Zeul stated that such watershed development programs should be supported and continued for the sustainable impacts it offers.
